It's a bit of a combination of the DOJ and DFK BL hyper systems. You use up all the P items for a hyper and the amount you used determines how powerful the hyper is. Apart from that there are also autobombs and getting hit cancels your hyper. You can also manually cancel your hyper to clear the screen of bullets.
